Kids Triathlon '10

The kids said they both wanted to do the kids triathlon this year so back in June I signed them up. Neither did any training of any kind during the summer and when I would suggest that they run with me or go for a bike ride you would have thought I looked them in the eye and asked them to jump into lava.

The day before the big race we attended an orientation. Good thing as it made me realize they both needed shoes and goggles. They had worn flip flops all summer so actual shoes were not something we had around ...

We were all up and eating a good breakfast when Randy realized our sump pump was not attached and water was being pumped from the well and then shot out of the pipe directly onto our eclectic fuse box. In case you are wondering ... this is NOT good. So, Randy had to miss Chris' race to attend to the water issue.

I got both kids down there and got their staging areas all set up. They were both ready to go.

Chris' start time was 8:07:30 am. He was so ready to do that the second he jumped into the pool he started to swim. (they are supposed to wait for the ready set go so that they each start at their exact start time. He swam and then had to go back and start over ....

It did not take the life guards long to realize that Chris would require a noodle for the duration of his swim ... He had to swim 50 yards ...

He then biked for a mile ...

He ran for one half mile.

He crossed the finish line in 17 minutes!!

Everyone got a metal.

Time to call Dad and tell him all about the big race!!

I thought it was really cute how they did the numbers on their legs ... like a real triathloner!!

Acacia started a little bit after Chris had finished! Randy was able to make it down at this point. She had to swim 100 yards (no noodle) ...

Out of the pool and onto the bike!

She biked for 4.4 miles!!

She had to run a mile and crossed the finish line in about 50 minutes!

After the race Chris asked if we could sign him up for next years and Acacia asked if she could go home and take a bath ...

Acacia looked like a real runner with mud all over back and legs!!

Acacia's friend Rachel ran the race too! We stuck around to see her cross the finish line!!

HI outfits '10

Here are the kids in their HI outfits! Can you tell Chris is hanging loose??

Karate CHOP!!

At a school function the kids Karate place was trying to drum up business and had a karate chop thing set up. Both Chris and Acacia now think they are ninja ready having punched a piece of styrofoam insulation in half ....

Chris Isaak '10

Rod and Heather invited us to join them in seeing Chris Isaak. He put on a great show and was actually really funny. He came out into the audience and the women were all over him as if he were Elvis! Somehow Heather and I managed to contain ourselves and did not attempt a belly dance around him. Although, given the size of some of the women that did attempt this he probably wished Heather and I had.

18 Years - Chicago '10

With my mom in town and able to watch the kids, Randy planned an awesome day for us touring Chicago.

For our 18th anniversary we started with brunch on the 95th floor of the Hancock Tower! What an amazing view!

We walked around and went to a music festival and art show and in our walk ran across some museums that we will return to with the kids!

We ended the day by taking in Shrek - The Musical. First balcony - first row - center seats!!
