Chris' Front Teeth '10

Gross. Disgusting. Nasty. That is all I have to say about kids and their loose teeth. I can't stand it. So, according to a past post Chris lost his first front tooth a couple weeks ago. To read about this trauma refer back a couple posts. Today's post is about the second front tooth. A few days after his first tooth came out he was doing some kind of crazy made up karate/power ranger/acrobatic routine and managed to kick the second tooth all but out. I mean, he literally managed to get some part of his leg/foot right up into his mouth and knock that dang thing loose. So for about 2 weeks he was twisting and turning this thing and it just kept hanging on by the one corner ... totally grossing me out. So I took the camera out and started snappy a few off.

Then told him to sit down and finish eating. He took one bite and out it came! Of course there was teeny tiny bit of blood. This caused mass panic. He (once again) is sure he will most certainly bleed to death. He spent about 3 minutes in the bathroom crying and then finally came out and was fine.

He started telling us what he was sure the tooth fairy would bring him (a new Wii game). In case you don't know ... a Wii game cost $20-$50 bucks. He went to bed and I dug up two perfectly crisp $1 bills and 2 cool gold one dollar coins (total $4) and left it under his pillow. The daddy tooth fairy went in the next morning and took the bills and one of coins and replaced them with a $5!

When Chris came in to my room ready for school he did not say anything about the tooth fairy coming so I asked. He was like - whatever. I got $5 a quarter and a DVD player. Now, Randy leaves for the gym at like 5:30a so I don't see him before he leaves so he was not able to tell me what he had done. I am VERY confused at this point and asked Chris to show me what he was talking about.

He brought me into his room and showed me the quarter ($1 coin). The $5 bill ($5 bill) and the DVD player (empty CD sleeve). So DVD player and CD sleeve are the same in his mind. This is good to know.

So now he has a very large gap in his month. This has not hindered or slowed his speech in any way.

Breaking in the new patio '10

We had our first of what will hopefully be many patio gatherings yet even this season. I totally lucked out as a friend of mine tipped me off to a patio warehouse clearance sale. Had I had the money we would have an awesome living set for under the pergola. It was at least a $3K set and they were asking under $1K. I passed but did get 4 sling back chairs, a nice long wicker glass top table and heavy iron umbrella stand all for $80!! Not bad!

Then I went out again and got a fire pit! That proved to be the best purchase as it was a bit chilly and the fire pit was a HUGE success!!! It was a lot of fun to be able to have more then a few people over at the same time!! We had tons of great food and drinks and then did the s'mores! I can't wait for the next one!!

Lost his front tooth! '10

FINALLY!! Chris is 7+ and he is just now loosing one of his front teeth!! He was sooooo excited! Sitting at the breakfast bar eating bacon and it literally just fell out!! He was like ... HAY!? My tooth just fell out? But then ... he saw ... b.l.o.o.d!!! E-gads!! It was not actually bleeding but he saw red and started to BAWL!! After explaining that he was not actually bleeding and he is now no closer to death then he was 30 seconds ago he calmed down.

The tooth fairy brought THREE packs of gogos!! He woke up and started laughing! We could hear him down the hall. Very cute!!

First Day of School '10

No big deal this year. No new clothes. No new back packs. Same old ... same old. Oddly enough, one of the kids at the bus stop did ask Chris if that was the same back pack he had from last year ... who keeps up with that kind of stuff?? Weird.

They both seem very happy with their teachers and classrooms ... all good.

Walking to the bus stop ...

Bus stop!

Off they go ....

Kids Triathlon '10

The kids said they both wanted to do the kids triathlon this year so back in June I signed them up. Neither did any training of any kind during the summer and when I would suggest that they run with me or go for a bike ride you would have thought I looked them in the eye and asked them to jump into lava.

The day before the big race we attended an orientation. Good thing as it made me realize they both needed shoes and goggles. They had worn flip flops all summer so actual shoes were not something we had around ...

We were all up and eating a good breakfast when Randy realized our sump pump was not attached and water was being pumped from the well and then shot out of the pipe directly onto our eclectic fuse box. In case you are wondering ... this is NOT good. So, Randy had to miss Chris' race to attend to the water issue.

I got both kids down there and got their staging areas all set up. They were both ready to go.

Chris' start time was 8:07:30 am. He was so ready to do that the second he jumped into the pool he started to swim. (they are supposed to wait for the ready set go so that they each start at their exact start time. He swam and then had to go back and start over ....

It did not take the life guards long to realize that Chris would require a noodle for the duration of his swim ... He had to swim 50 yards ...

He then biked for a mile ...

He ran for one half mile.

He crossed the finish line in 17 minutes!!

Everyone got a metal.

Time to call Dad and tell him all about the big race!!

I thought it was really cute how they did the numbers on their legs ... like a real triathloner!!

Acacia started a little bit after Chris had finished! Randy was able to make it down at this point. She had to swim 100 yards (no noodle) ...

Out of the pool and onto the bike!

She biked for 4.4 miles!!

She had to run a mile and crossed the finish line in about 50 minutes!

After the race Chris asked if we could sign him up for next years and Acacia asked if she could go home and take a bath ...

Acacia looked like a real runner with mud all over back and legs!!

Acacia's friend Rachel ran the race too! We stuck around to see her cross the finish line!!
